Be Findable — Set Up Your Safety System
This is not only teaching. This is a system you build, here, in a calm season: one page with everything the people who love you — and the police — would need to find you, a phone set up to be found, and a check-in plan your person actually holds. When the worst hour comes, nobody searches their memory. They hand over the sheet.
The privacy promise, in big words: this system lives on YOUR device and your family's paper. This app never sees it, never stores it, and never sends it.
What you type below is kept only in this browser, on this device — the same promise as every tool in this app. And the sheet never asks for a password, an account login, or a card number. Names, numbers, and facts only. If any page in our name ever asks for more, it is not us. Close it.
One system, three doors
The method is one. Choose who this sheet is for — the fields below will speak for that person.
Where the doors lead: for a child, the ahead-of-time cards, the printable fingerprint record card, and the tracking teaching on the Missing Persons page stand beside this sheet. For an elder, the elder teaching — the card in every pocket, Project Lifesaver, Silver Alert — stands beside it. This system does not replace those pages; it is the page they all point to when someone asks, what do we hand the police?
Part 4 — When it happens
These four doors stand at the bottom of every printed sheet, so the paper itself carries the plan. In order:
- Your person calls you. A missed check-in may be a dead battery or a long meeting — the first door is always your own voice answering.
- Your person calls your contacts — in the order on the sheet. Someone may know where you are.
- Your person calls the police — and hands them the sheet. Number, carrier, IMEI, car, code word, last known place and time: the whole first hour of questions, answered on one page. How officers and carriers use it is taught in How authorities can find you, on the Electrical Safety page.
- If you are the one in trouble and you get one moment: 911. Emergency SOS. Or the code word, said to your person in an ordinary voice. One moment is enough, if the system was built before it.
Free Grants and Free Resources for This Section
Shared for learning only, from the named public sources; programs change, so check the source. This system itself is free, and everything it uses is already in your phone. For the doors around it: Missing Persons — Help for Families for cards, fingerprint kits, and the first hours; the phone section for every setting named above; dialing 2-1-1 reaches local help of every kind, free, day and night.
Traveling?
Travel is one of the times this system earns its place. Before you go, your person at home gets the trip itself: the flight, or the ship's name, the cruise line, and the sailing dates — and your check-in plan runs while you are gone. What the checkpoints will ask, how your identity is checked at the window, and what to do if you are flagged on the way are taught on Travel Safety and Your Identity.
